Choose Hevy if you want a free log, your own routines, friends to train with or Android. Its Pro plan, which builds a program and adjusts your weights, costs $23.99 a year. Choose RIGOR if you want an app that is only the plan: built for your gym, a target on every set, and the reason shown whenever a target changes. What a week looks like in each
On Hevy's free plan the week is yours to write: pick a routine from a library of 26 programs or build your own, choose each weight, and log it with last time's numbers in a column named Previous. On Pro, Hevy Trainer asks your goal, experience, equipment and days, builds a program, and raises a weight once every prescribed set reaches the top of its rep range.
RIGOR has one path. It asks much the same questions, then the plan is the app: one workout a day, every set with a target.
In Hevy
- Pick a routine from the library, or write your own.
- Log each set; last time's numbers are beside it.
- On Pro, Hevy Trainer builds the program and raises the weights.
In RIGOR
- Tell it your goal, your days and your gym.

- Open today's workout; every target is set.

- Log it; the rules set next time and show why.

Either way, on Hevy Pro or on RIGOR, you walk in with a plan and a weight already chosen.
Where Hevy is better
On price and on reach. Hevy Pro covers the centre of what RIGOR does, a built program and weights that move, for less than half the price.
- Price. Hevy Pro is $23.99 a year against $59.99, or $74.99 once. RIGOR has no one-time price.
- A free plan. Hevy logs unlimited workouts for free. In RIGOR, starting a workout needs the subscription.
- Where it runs. Android, the web, Apple Watch and Wear OS as well as iPhone. RIGOR is iPhone only.
- Your own routines. Hevy lets you write any routine, or start from its library. RIGOR builds the plan; you can swap exercises and change targets, but not write a program from scratch.
- People. A feed: follow other lifters, like and comment on workouts, save their routines. RIGOR has nothing social.
- Moving in. Hevy imports a CSV export from Strong. RIGOR imports nothing yet.
If any of these decides it for you, choose Hevy.
Where RIGOR is better
If you want an app that is only the plan. RIGOR builds it, sets every target and shows the rule behind each change.

- The reason, every time. Tap Why on any target and RIGOR shows what you did last time and the rule it applied: more weight, another rep, the same again, or less.
- Rules for the bad days too. Hevy's page gives its rule for raising a weight: reach the top of the rep range on every prescribed set. RIGOR's written rules start there and go on. Hit the reps but find them harder than planned, and the weight holds. Fall short of the range two sessions running and it comes down 10%. When the next weight your gym can load is too big a jump, you add reps first.
- Deload weeks. A RIGOR plan runs four training weeks and can end with a lighter fifth: about half the sets at 10% less weight. It is on by default unless you are a beginner.
- No feed. Hevy lets you set your profile to private. RIGOR has nothing to switch off.
None of this makes RIGOR the better buy for everyone. It is the narrower app at the higher price, for a lifter who wants the plan, the target and the reason, and nothing else. See RIGOR vs Fitbod, which builds each workout, or RIGOR vs Strong, another logbook.

Questions
Is Hevy free?
Yes. Hevy's free plan logs unlimited workouts, with up to 4 routines, 7 custom exercises and 3 months of graph history.
How much does Hevy cost?
Hevy Pro is $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year or $74.99 once, read on Hevy's pricing page on 10 October 2026. RIGOR is $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year.
Does Hevy tell you what weight to lift?
On Pro, yes: Hevy Trainer builds a program and raises a weight once every prescribed set reaches the top of its rep range. On the free plan you choose the weight.
Is Hevy Pro worth it?
If you want Hevy to build your program and move your weights, Pro is the plan that does it, at less than half RIGOR's price. If you only log routines you wrote, the free plan may be enough.
What is the best Hevy alternative?
It depends on what you want to change. For a plan with a reason behind every target, try RIGOR. For a free log, or anything on Android, RIGOR is not the answer.
